Vaginal Itching FAQ:
Okay so a few days ago my vagina was really tender to wiping like your nose is when you have a really bad cold.Well its not tender anymore but it’s itching REALLY bad.I’m only 14 and scared and shy about that;as you can imagine I can’t even fathom letting someone look at me down there.I don’t know what to do.I tried to ignore it but I can’t because it itches so bad that I have to scratch it.I know its not an STD because I’ve NEVER had sexual *********** of anykind.I am freaked out. I know it isn’t crabs because I checked and shaved all the hair off but it still itches. How long should I wait to see if it goes away and how can I relieve the itching?

Okay, shaving the hair probably made it worse. Growning it back will be all itchy now. Get some Vagisil.
I don’t know what the itching is – maybe a yeast infection? But don’t be afraid of the doctor. I SWEAR it’s not that bad.
The whole appointment takes like 10 minutes and they are really nice and really professional. If you are really nervous about talking with mom or a parent, just call Planned Parenthood and maybe they can help.
You’ll be ok! Don’t worry – just take care of yourself and call a doc.
I just told some body else with similar problem. Try and clean it off with rubbing alcohol, and be careful because alcohol can burn your you know what.
go to the doctor. they could tell you what it is. when i was 14 i got a urinary track infection and it did that at first then started to burn went i went ***. so i told mt mom it burned when i went to the bathroom 2 days later i was taking medicine for it and it was gone completely in a week.
lanacane cream from the chemist is superb for sensitive area itching
Sounds like a yeast infection, these itch like crazy. Do you have a cottage cheese like discharge. If you do then it is most likely a yeast infection. You should see a doctor even though you don’t want to. They have to diagnos this to make sure you don’t have anything else going on. Until the time being you can eat yogurt, this is good for your body and helping it fight yeast infections.
The original itchiness may be thrush or bacterial vaginosis…shaving the hair will probably make it a bit more itchy as that grows back.
These aren’t STD’s, they’re a disturbance of the natural balance of micro-organisms that live on our skin. Most women get something like this at some point. Ideally you should see a doctor, ask your GP surgery if you can see a female doctor if that makes you feel more comfortable.
In the meantime you could apply natural, live yoghurt to the area. This contains good bacteria that will help restore the normal balance and soothe the itch.
Please ignore the person who said to use alcohol. You don’t want to use alcohol on your vaginal area or any other mucous membrane, but you can wipe your pubic hair area with it.
Do not wait to see if the itching goes away; it won’t. Crabs make your pubic hair area itch, but do not make your vaginal area itch because they don’t go there. From your description, it’s probably a yeast infection (especially if you have taken antibiotics in the last couple of months), but the first time, you need to have a gyno exam, preferably by a female doctor. Your mom or sister or friend can go with you and hold your hand. You are draped with a sheet so nothing shows. The doctor should take a sample (done by wiping your vagina with a Q-tip type swab) to determine exactly what kind of infection it is. It could also be a bacterial infection, and they are treated differently. The instrument used to hold your vaginal lips open is called a speculum. It comes in various sizes, and the one they use for virgins is tiny and doesn’t hurt.
Tell the doc it’s your first female exam, and she should explain what she is doing as she goes along. Describe the problem, even if you already described it to a nurse. Get her to show you how to do a monthly ****** self-exam while you’re there.
If it is a yeast infection, next time you can treat it yourself with an over-the-counter medicine. Don’t be embarassed about having a female exam, it’s not so bad if the doctor’s a woman. Even if there’s not a woman doctor available in your area, take a friend, sister or your mom. It makes it easier the first time.
For a few women, a yeast infection will go away on its own after their period. For 1 out of 4 women a bacterial infection will go away on its own as well. While you may not want a doctor to look down there, it’s part of growing up, being mature and doing what you know will help you get better.
